Political Humor

I thought *I* spent a lot of time on the computer, but I've got nothing on these guys. Here are two brothers, Gregg & Evan Spiridellis, who must spend all their time working on animations.

You may have read about them in yesterday's Chronicle. Their site, www.jibjab.com hit the news because of their animated rendition of "This Land" featuring Bush and Kerry. They've become an internet phenom and, according to their blog, appeared on Fox News over the weekend. I heard the song on The Arrow - they've played it a few times now and it's hilarious.

Can't get my computer to play it from the site though - curious - something to do with my internet setup, no doubt.

I say To-MAH-to - you say To-MAY-to

Wow - I had an epiphany this weekend! It's true - there is nothing in this world that tastes like a HOME-GROWN tomato!!

I took a chance this spring and bought a couple of tomato plants at Walmart and stuck them in the ground by my back fence. I really wasn't expecting anything much to happen - the ground back there isn't what you'd call cultivated, really just basic dirt covered with mulch.

However, I've been weeding and I sprayed with Miracle Gro a couple of times and have been keeping them watered (well, actually Mother Nature has been doing that for me, in the form of flooding rains)

Imagine my surprise when I was weeding one day and happened to notice one solitary tomato bravely growing. About half an inch across, it was hardly nature's bounty, but it was a start and I nurtured that little guy until it was finally a good size and nice and ripe.

Last weekend, I got to taste the "fruit of my labor" as it were - and that's when I had the epiphany. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm - I have never had such a succulent, juicy, TASTY tomato in my life!!

I don't know what the stores do to their tomatoes, but whatever it is, is sucks the taste right out of them.

I noticed, as I was picking my tomato off the bush, that each of the two bushes has two small tomatoes growing, so in a few more weeks, I'll have a bounty! LOL!

I need to get more tomato plants.
